CAT or Common entrance test is one of the most prestigious and challenging exams, which is difficult to crack. This exam is taken by IIM, the Indian Institute of Management. Overview of CAT syllabus 2022:

The CAT exam consists of three sections, having a mix of both MCQ and non MCQ questions. Each question will have a penalty if MCQ is answered incorrectly.

  • Quantitative Ability, QA has a weightage of 34%
  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning hold the weightage of 32%
  • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension has a weightage of 34%

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension CAT syllabus 2022:

This is one of the sections which sees major changes in structure and topics. As per the topics which were there in last year’s exam, you need to prepare for the below topics.

  • Reading comprehension has a total of 16 RC questions and four passages.
  • Paragraph summary: This is another important area that has achieved prominence in the last few years.
  • Para jumbles & Misfit sentences: These two topics are regular in exams.
  • Seeing the above topics, you will notice the missing of specific topics because more than 70% weightage of this section is for RC question types only. You must also note that there existed only 8VA questions in CAT 2021 and all of them were non MCQ based. The pattern keeps on changing, and therefore, you must know about the important topics.   • Verbal Reasoning, Fact-Inference-Judgement
  • Grammar & Usage, having questions on Confusing Words, common Grammar errors & Phrasal Verbs

Grammar-based questions test the candidates’ capability to correct grammatical errors. CAT exam is to test the knowledge of high school grammar which includes modifiers, articles, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, redundancy, parallel construction, phrasal verbs etc.

CAT syllabus 2022 for Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

This section includes an equal number of questions from Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. The majority of these questions come in sets of 2 to 3 questions each. Given below are the important topics from Data interpretation and Logical reasoning.

  • Line charts, pie charts, Venn diagrams, bar graphs, case lets, column graphs, tables and combinations of two or more types linked with each other.
  • Number and letter series, cubes, games and tournaments, clock, cubes, binary logic, Venn diagrams, syllogism, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence and connectives.

CAT 2022 syllabus for Quantitative Ability

QA or quantitative ability is one of the widest sections in the CAT examination. Over the last couple of years, the focus of this section has increased on arithmetic based questions. In CAT 2021, the major share of the questions was from this topic. Another topic with high weightage is Algebra, which included some questions from geometry. Therefore, you must follow the topics below to score well in CAT quantitative ability.

  • Profit and loss, number system, discount, speed, LCM and HCF, percentages, time and work, time and distance, averages, ratio and proportion and simple and compound interest.
  • Complex numbers, binomial theorem, quadratic equations, logarithm, linear equations, inequalities, surds and indices, and sequences and series.
  • Mixtures and allegations, permutation and combinations, functions, probability and set theory.
  • Trigonometry, geometry, mensuration and coordinate geometry.
